Sorry Kee Thuan Chye.......

Last Monday, i have had a chance to meet Kee Thuan Chye and at first i feel very excited to meet this creative writer. I really admired his play "the swordfish, and then the concubine" as this play is very unique in a sense that he combined two different elements - modern and traditional.
However, that meeting was not really as what as i hope it to be. At first, i was very happy as i finally i can see him face to face and i was able to hear his speech. Erm...i was a bit disappointed as i think his speech was 80% into political issue. I admit that in "swordfish and then the concubine", there are several points that related to political issues, however i never believed that he was too obsess into this topic.
I still remember a sentence that he said during his speech on that day is that we students should not be taught about history of Malaysia. I understand he is totally against the government, but i think he does not have the right to say so because at early of his speech, he did mentioned that we ourselves do not know whether the history is true or not. So, who give him the right to say that the history text book is polluting students' minds?
However, i really appreciate Dr. Edwin's effort to invite him for this conference. At least, i got the chance to know and understand him better. Sorry Kee Thuan Chye, I am no longer your fan anymore.

  1. he said that, the truth in a book represent the truth of the writer, not the real truth. he did not say that only what he believed is the true. so basically it's up to us believed it or not. anyway, i do believed in what he said to some extend. i heard rumors that march 8th was staged, but in the history textbook never said so. so does that means that it was not staged? one more. in the textbook, they only glorify the government. why? to show that government did great job in bringing all malaysian together? it's selfish to say it is, because the reality, we AINT LIVIN TOGETHER AS ONE.. we still separated by color of our skins, cultures, and religions that we belive. we can see that racial sentiment still going strong in our country, but usually, these kind of information wont go public. the authority will do everything that they could to silenced us all. this also is supression to our freedom of speech (owh yeah, in msia we dont have that).

  2. hmm..sorry.. i think the other day, Kee Thuan Chye said that history that we have learned does not necessarily a truth..he did not mention that we should not learn Malaysia history..history is back spine of every human.. by learning history, we know our background.. however, we should not forget that history manuscript is written by human..and human tends to do something for his own sake..that is human..sometimes, human tends to hide his weaknesses and tell the whole his achievements..if you do watch Beowulf, that is one of example of human's traits.. if you read the history of The Fall of Ottoman's Empire in Turkey, it doesn't say the way it is..hmm..i do not say that i disagree with you but what i am saying is we must evaluate first before we accept any facts..that makes us to be more intelligent person..politic is a good thing..even in Islamic point of view, politic is a part of our religion..define politic first, then we will know what politic is all about..don't be too rigid..there are a lot to be explored..gud luck!
